Memories of Angela Smith

If she saw a need, she simply filled it

Michael

I knew Angela off and on in many Family Homes from 1978 through 2004, and I would have to say that she is probably the most sacrificial person I have ever met, constantly going out of her way to see if she could help you or help whoever it was that was within her reach. I remember marveling several times at her automatic reaction to help. If she saw a need, she simply filled it, and I’m sure in my own heart and mind that that is why she went to visit Ricky that day, because she probably wanted to try to help him, since he was so troubled. The reason I think this, is because that’s just the way Angela was. That was Angela, she had a gift from God to help everyone whose path she crossed. In fact, she helped so much that sometimes it could bother me! Asking me if I wanted this or if I wanted that or if that was okay or if I needed help with this!

It was just incredible how gifted she was. She was a nurse, a caregiver, a secretary, even an intellectual with all she knew about science and things, a seamstress—such a multi-talented person. And yet you’d never know how smart she was or how talented until you spent some time around her. Even in the last year I lived with her, I was still finding out things she could do that I had no idea of. She was artsy-craftsy, athletic—she seemed to just be running over with talents. But probably amongst them all was her constant thread of trying to do things for others. She seemed to have a compulsion to help others, even to her own hurt. That was Angela. A life of sacrifice here on this Earth for every single soul she ever met, I am sure!
