Memories of Angela Smith

Angela was an eternal teenager—just so magically young at heart

The Bible speaks of love being one of the most important things, and I would say that if anyone emulated the Lord's love freely and sacrificially, it would have to be Angela. She had that quality of loving the unlovely even when it was difficult, and overlooking a multitude of faults rather blindly. She always tried to give others the benefit of the doubt.

I loved her crazy ways—her enthusiasm and zest for life, her spontaneity, her extremely giving and sharing nature, the way she was so affectionate and always concerned about everyone's welfare even to her own hurt.

I've never met anyone who was as incredibly giving as she was. I remember now that I always had to be careful when complimenting anything of hers—a plant, a shirt, a perfume, etc.—because 9 times out of 10 I would find it on my desk the next morning with a note saying, "I didn't really need it anyway." That was Angela.

I first met Angela when I was 17, and I lived with her on and off till I was 23. She had a big hand in helping me through my tumultuous older teen years, because of her prayers, her faith in the Lord, and her faith in people. She was a listening ear and a shoulder to cry on—a dependable friend. I remember wondering when I first met her how she managed to bridge the age gap between us so effortlessly. But Angela was an eternal teenager—just so magically young at heart. I'm going to miss her.
